>Bake Sale Update!

>Our bake sale went very well. All proceeds went to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. We raised over $550 over the course of the weekend. A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped sell and bake, Western Color Growers for donating our booth, and Ponderosa Market for donating Bananas.

  1. >This is amazing Kelly! I love all of the tiny details… you can tell you really spent time and effort on this! I'm also now craving a peanut butter pillow 😦

  2. >Thanks, Jess! All of the little papers have information on breast cancer, breast cancer statistcs, there was a pamphlet on mammograms, the statistics on men who get breast cancer, baking without eggs, vegan cookbooks, going vegan, etc.It was very successful. Most people couldn't believe the goodies were vegan, and it started a lot of great conversations about it. I think many people may have changed their perception of veganism this weekend (even if only just a bit).I handed out a ton of vegan banana bread recipes, and a ton of baking without eggs fliers. I had gluten free chocolate chip cookies – they didn't sell too well, BUT the people who bought them were absolutely thrilled to be able to enjoy a GF cookie.^_^The whole thing makes me giddy.

  3. >I would be giddy too! It's hard to get those messages across without sounding houndish or mothering, ya know? I never felt confident enough to actually attempt to educate others on the benefits of Vegan/GF eating! It sounds like you were able to educate quite a few people on the benefits of both! This kind of makes me remember why I dont care for the "skinny bitch" book! I felt like it was "scaring" me into not wanting to eat a certain way. I love that you chose the path of educating and it even shows in your recipes! Way to go!!!

  4. >I loved SB, I feel like it was a good kick in the pants, but I definitely understand it is NOT for everyone. I honestly believe people do best with a show, not tell approach. I loved showing people that they can still enjoy a lemon bar or a moist, almost gooey chocolate raspberry cookie and be vegan. I also loved showing them that not all vegans are skinny and pale. And not all of us are hostile PETA vegans (I think that is a huge misconception up here – we're out to start fights about food — and I'm not, food should be about loving, sharing, and coming together) I definitely think I accomplished what I set out to do.SFTLP. ^_^Thank you, Jess. ❤
